SH School of Communication prides itself on its distinct and dynamic faculty. We have young and seasoned brains, on board: media practitioners with pan-Indian exposure, academics who joined after a stint at international universities and professionals who came directly from their industrial domains. But what binds all of them at SHSC is their readiness for knowledge sharing, coupled with their enthusiasm for mentoring budding talents.

To complement the barter between industry and academics, we have a select panel of guest faculty members, who excite the students with their trouper interventions. With this innovative confluence of academics, researchers and professionals from India and abroad, SHSC stands tall among the media studies centres in the subcontinent. Mr. Thomas Jacob Member

Thomas Jacob is a veteran in Malayalam journalism whose rich experience in Editorial as well as media management has received much recognition nationally and internationally. As the Editorial Director of Malayala Manorama he is at the helm of affairs of the daily. His regular columns in the Manorama periodicals are credited with a large fanfare. As the former Chairman of Kerala Press Academy, his ability in training aspiring journalists needs no testimony.

Mr. Lal Jose Member

Film maker Lal Jose has been involved in making Malayalam films for the last 20 years. He started out as an assistant director to the well-known film maker Kamal. His films are acclaimed by audience as well as critics. Most popular among them are Oru Maravathoor Kanavu, Meesa Madhavan, Classmates, Chanthupottu, Achchanurangaaththa veedu, Arabikatha, Neelathamara, Elsamma enna Aankutty, Diamond Necklace and Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil.

He has enriched the industry by constituting a production company – LJ Films – which takes initiative to produce and distribute quality films. He has won numerous awards for his work throughout this eventful career. He has been recognised by Asianet, Filmfare and Kerala State, for Best Director and Best Popular Film.

Dr. C.S. Venkiteswaran Member

He writes passionately about film and media, and has been actively involved with the Film Society Movement from the mid-70’s. He has written for Deep Focus, Film International, Cinema in India, Bhashaposhini, Pachakuthira, Indian Express, The Hindu, Mathrubhumi and Madhyamam. His book, Malayalacinema Padanangal won a Special Jury Mention in the State film awards in 2011. An acclaimed documentary filmmaker, he has won the National Award for Best Arts/Cultural Film in 1995 along with M.R. Rajan for Pakarnattam – Ammannur, The Actor, the lyrical cinematic documentation of the life of Ammannur Madhava Chakyar, the exponent of the ancient classical Sanskrit theatrical 'Koodiyattam'. This film also won the Kerala State Award in the Best Documentary category in the same year. He was the Artistic Director of the Signs 2012 film festival for short films and documentaries. In the same year he was a jury member for best writing on cinema at the National Film Awards.

Mr. Vipin Vijay Member

Vipin Vijay is an award winning film director and screenwriter. Vipin has a post-graduate degree in film making from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata. He has an array of national and international recognitions to his credit, including the National ‘Tiger award’ at International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Charles Wallace Arts Award for research at the British Film Institute, London, the best Malayalam film commendation award 2001, Indian Documentary Producer's Association (IDPA), Best Director Award of the Kerala State Film " TV Awards.. His film, Kshurasyadhara is now a part of permanent archives at the United States Library of Congress. In 2012, Vipin travelled throughout south India making a four-hour documentary film, tracing the advent of Jaina heritage in south India, supported by a project initiated by the Bharatvarshiya Digambar Jain Tirthkshetra Committee, Mumbai. In 2014, he completed a documentary film Feet upon the grounds, on the creative world of Shri Adoor Gopalakrishnan, for the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi as part of their "Great Masters" series.

Vipin is developing a fiction film based in Kerala tracing the roots of ethnic and cultural memory of a community set in Cochin, Kerala. The film titled Chavunilam (A voice from elsewhere) won the Incredible India award for the Most Promising Project of the Co-production market, 2012 at the Film bazaar, International Film Festival of India, Goa.

Mr. Sreekandan Nair Member

Born in Kollam district, after his MA and MPhil, he joined as Lecturer in Sree Keralavarma College, Thrissur. For almost three decades, he has been a presenter and producer for a variety of shows, serials and programmes on Doordarshan, Asianet and Mazhavil Manorama. He was a consultant for the Manorama Group since 2010. Mr Nair has successfully lead show direction for Asianet Film Awards and Live Stage Events since 1995, directed all the stage shows of Asianet including Asianet Film Awards, live finale events of reality shows such as Idea Star Singer and Munch Star Singer.

He has written screenplays for films, serials and television programmes, published articles and books in Malayalam. He received several awards by the Government of Kerala, and been a part of the Jury in International Emmy Awards.

Mr. George Paul Member

George Paul is the founder and lead designer of ‘Forest Design’ – a graphic designing agency which serves clients such as L"T, HP and Tata Press in the corporate sector. A postgraduate in Design from IDC, IIT Mumbai, with wide-ranging experience in both print and web design, he develops corporate and brand identities, product packaging, websites, presentations and sales collateral for clients in retail, service and high-tech industries. He has handled a three-day workshop on Information Graphics at IDC, IIT Bombay, as visiting faculty.

Mr. Felix Devasia Member

Felix Devasia, a pioneer in Children’s animation videos and movies in Kerala is the founder of the animation studio 3D Magic in Kottayams. He has worked as an animator with Zee TV Mumbai, for six years. He is one of the brains behind the creation of `Manchadi’, the first animated production in Malayalam for kids. He has also created the `Kilukkampetti’ series for Manorama music.

Mr. Babu Joseph Director

A visionary leader who walked ahead of times and currents in Media, Babu Joseph has always set his own trends. Be it his forte, print journalism, or his later love, Television, this creative multi-medium specialist has been engaged in proactive dialogue with the media throughout the past 30 years. His interests are as wide as initiating and running a TV channel or promoting AIDS awareness or teaching journalism. SH School of Communication is extremely proud to have him as the director.

Dr. Asha Achy Joseph HOD

A wealth of experience amassed in 18 long years of conversance with diverse avenues of media, be it celluloid, digital, web, electronic, or print, is what makes Dr Asha competent to captain the department. She is equally passionate about writing, film making and teaching. Soon after her doctoral studies in Television at Pune University, she worked as producer in two leading Malayalam television channels, Asianet and Indiavision. In 2002 she received the prestigious Foreign and Commonwealth Scholarship (Chevening) for broadcast journalism, by the British government. A national award winner for the best documentary film, she has also worked extensively as an assistant to the ace Malayalam film director, MrLal Jose. She is a visiting faculty at various national universities and institutions.

Mr. Rohit Sivan Faculty

Rohit Sivan is faculty-in-charge of B.A. Animation and Graphic Design. A rank holder in Animation and Graphic Design from Mahatma Gandhi University, he has valuable expertise as a Graphic Designer, 3D and Flash Animator in various reputed organisations including Toonz Animation, Thiruvananthapuram. He has been a part of ‘Kilukkampetti’, a project by Manorama Music, as a story board artist, character visualiser and 3D animator. Working as a freelancer, he was instrumental in doing the title graphics for Kairali WE channel. He was a participant in the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2012.

Ms. Anu Cherian Faculty

Anu Cherian, mentor for M.A. Graphic Design, is a postgraduate in Visual Communication from Loyola college, Chennai. An art teacher and an event management professional rolled into one, she has organised events for government, corporate, private and educational organisations in Kerala and Bengaluru. Organising the ‘FTV Fashion Show’- HariAnand& Patti Stren Collections ‘09 was a major event in her illustrious career. She has also worked as an RJ at GyanVani Educational Radio in Coimbatore.

Ms. Rima MathewFaculty

Rima Mathew has more than six years of commendable experience as a Journalist in Asianet News, the pioneer in Malayalam Television News. She is a movie buff and has a great passion for photography and travelling. Her Areas of interest include gender concerns, environmental issues, art, culture and history. She is the mentor for Mass Communication and Journalism.

Ms. Malu Mohan Faculty

Malu Mohan, Mentor for MA Multimedia, is one of the senior most 3D Animation Faculty in Kerala, with an experience of 14 years. She has been teaching in different reputed Animation Institutes including TOONZ Animation, Arena and Image as Senior Faculty and Department Head. She was an invited faculty at Naval Base, Kochi. She has been doing freelancing works like Poster Designing, 3D Architectural Visualization and Character Modeling for various Production houses.

Mr. Vinod Laxman Faculty

Vinod L , Assistant Professor, is a first rank holder of Master of Fine Arts ( MFA) specialized in Applied Art, with UGC NET in Visual Art is one of the senior most faculty in the field in Kerala, with 6 years industry experience in advertising and 10 years in academics and teaching, in some of the most reputed colleges in Kerala. A thorough academician in visual art with a passion for research has presented and published several papers in national and international conferences and journals. As a painter, his styles and media are diverse and has participated in several painting exhibitions in the country and has a vibrant presence in the online art circles of India and abroad. His areas of Interest other than Applied Art are, Art History, Visual Semiotics, Iconography, Indology and Ancient Symbology.

Mr. Sijo Joseph Faculty

With Diplomas in Animation-VFX and Network Centred Computing and a high degree knowledge of Advanced Editing/ Grading, he has previously worked as Freelance Colourist, Nuke Compositor at Dreamworks Animation DDU and Smoke Editor at Famous Studios.

He is currently a VFX Supervisor (Films and Commercials) and a VFX mentor. He takes up overseas and domestic work film projects on contract basis. Some of his recent projects are Penguins of Madagascar, Back at the Barnyard, How to Train your Dragon series. He has worked for CN and Nickelodeon from Technicolor and DreamWorks Animation, and plus hundreds of domestic and international films and commercials.He has led around 300 seminars in related fields, in various educational institutions. His passion lies in travelling and film making, and is concerned about causes related to Children and Education, Environment, Arts and Culture.

Mr. Kiran Sasi Faculty

Kiran Sasi is a graduated in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering Trivandrum, Kerala in 2010 and obtained Masters in Design from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Assam in 2012. He worked as project coordinator and production associate at Desire Machine Collective from 2012 to 2014.

Amathul wardha, mentor for mass communication and journalism completed her post graduation  in MCJ from kariyavattom campus,  Kerala university in 2009. She has got adequate  teaching experience as well as in media.

Mr. Mattias Löw International Guest Faculty

Mattias Löw, a faculty member of SHSC, is a popular name in the festival movie circles. He is a filmmaker for BBC, and is the director of internationally acclaimed films and documentaries like The Referee, Ice Carosello, Wounder Land and All the World in a Design School. He is one among the few directors who have made their mark in both feature and documentary film formats. He rose to fame with The Referee, a 2010-film based on football in Sweden.

His work Den Andra Sporten a documentary series in three volumes, zooming in on the hardships of women football players in Sweden, brought him accolades from around the world. This documentary fetched him numerous awards from various film festivals, and was acclaimed by critics and movie lovers alike. He has also been nominated for and won awards at the Academy Awards (Best Sport Film), Al Jazeera, Qatar, (Best Film Director) and MA Awards (Best Director - TV) and BAR Awards (Television Programmes).

Mr.K G Jyothir Ghosh Guest Faculty

K G Jyothir Ghosh is a senior media Journalist who holds a Masters degree in Journalism (MJ) from Kariavattom campus,Kerala University. Started career in journalism with Indian Express as correspondent at Kollam. In 1982 joined Mathrubhumi daily as Sub Editor Trainee. Left Mathrubhumi in 2007 as News Editor at Kochi edition. During this period worked in various capacities both at the field and editorial desk. Two years at Chennai as Correspondent. Reported assembly and Parliament proceedings .Gone abroad with reporting assignments. Did national election coverage’s. On the visual media front ran a current affairs program on Doordarsan in late nineties. Faculty member ,Kerala Media Academy since1996.Now regularly writing for print and online. Authored a book

Mr. Hashim Padiyath Guest Faculty

With a Master of Design in Visual communication from Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay, Hashim Padiyath started his career as a Type designer at C-DAC Gist, Pune and later worked with Malayala Manorama, Kottayam as their Design Coordinator designing publications and typefaces for them. In 1997 he started Design Difference in Cochin offering varied design services including Branding design, Promotional material design, Packaging design, Signage design, Publication design, Web and Interface design apart from Type design which remains closest to his heart. His Malayalam typefaces are used by many publications including Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi, Deepika, Mangalam, Thejas and D C Books.

Mr. Andur Sahadevan Guest Faculty

Sahadevan is a senior journalist with around 20 years of experience in print and over nine years of excellence in electronic journalism. He also holds immense passion for teaching, and hence serve as Visiting Faculty for various Media schools in India. His area of interest include news reporting and film appreciation.

Mr. Anil K V Guest Faculty

Anil K V., faculty member for Animation and Graphic Design, is a Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi award winner and an experienced animator, designer and fine arts person. He has conducted several solo and group exhibitions, organized and participated in the Kochi Muziris Biennale 2013, Artist Camps and Seminars. He has animated the film, Of Fishes and Tales, directed by Mr Prakash Moorthy, produced by C-dit for the State Institute for Children’s Literature (SICL).

Anubha GeorgeGuest Faculty

Anubha George is a former BBC journalist & editor, having worked for the organisation in the UK for 12 years. She has worked in broadcasting as a reporter, newsreader & as a deputy editor at BBC Radio 1, which is the most listened to radio station in the UK among its youth. She was the first ever Indian woman in such a senior role. Before that, Anubha worked briefly for The Indian Express in Bangalore. She's an English Literature graduate from MS University in Baroda, where she won a gold medal; and as a journalism trainee at The Asian College of Journalism (then in Bangalore), she won The Hindustan Times award for Excellence in Journalism. Some of her career highlights include reporting on the Sri Lankan tsunami; covering the Kargil war, and the general election in both India & the UK. She's also a trained yoga teacher & has worked with mentally ill & addicted patients & their carers. She has spoken & published on the subject. She now lives with her family in Kochi, having moved back from England last year. She loves Kerala- its beautiful sunny days, food, art, culture & above all, its people. Anubha lives her life by the motto- believe in the Universe, have courage & be kind.

An innovative professional with over 3 decade of experience in concept & designing. Strong conceptual skills in layout & design, highly energetic with real creative talent for captivating design ideas. Worked for print media including press campaigns, brochures, direct mails, posters & hoardings, point of purchase material, annual reports, product manuals, educational posters, books design, packaging and TV commercials. He did his B. Jacob Jose is a graphic designer based in Kochi. He has conceptualised, designed and implemented User Interface design for a number of Web applications and Mobile Apps especially in the banking sector. His design contributions include Identity deign for Kerala State Electricity Board, Branding/Website design for Shalom World English Channel, USA, Website design for Texaco Country Showdown, USA and posters for TATA First Dot and AXA BS.

N K Prasad Guest Faculty

Prasad is a professional Graphic Designer and Visualizer whose specialization include magazine layout, poster design and logo/identity design. In his 15 years of professional experience, he has served in various capacities at prestigious firms like New Age Business Daily and Tulip Creative Media, Goa. He is now serving as a freelance consultant for many ad agencies and publications like Lotus Media House Cochin, Corporate Solutionz Cochin and Harisree Publications, Thrissur.

Ms. Niranjana Varma Guest Faculty

Niranjana is a rank holder in Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from College of Fine Arts Thiruvanathapuram. She was the recipient of the Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi Scholarship for outstanding student of art in 98/99. Later she mastered the art of animation and worked with Mr.PrakashMoorthy, a known animator in India on the first complete Malayalam animation film "Of Fish and Tales". She has featured her works of Art through unconventional modes of exhibition. Traditional dancing and percussion are her side lines. Presently works from her own studio "Palavaka" at Thrissur.

Vinod Sukumaran Guest Faculty

Recipient of Kerala State Award for film editing in 2014, Vinod Sukumaran is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He has a diploma in Cinema and specialization in editing, a degree in Theatre Arts from School of Drama, Calicut University, and is a true craftsman with interests ranging from painting to carpentry. He has had experience in various facets of theatre production including make-up, costume design and art direction. He has associated with the veteran editor Renu Saluja in Hindi in films 1942 A love Story, Pardes, Is raat ki Subah Nahin and more. Back home in Kerala as associate director and editor of Shyamaprasad, he edited almost all films of the director Akale, Ritu, Ore kadal, Electra and Arike. He has won the national award for Best First Non-Feature of a Director for Diary of a Housewife.

Mr. Jophi Joseph Guest Faculty

Specialised in flash and web programming, Jophi Joseph has been working for the past 10 years in web and web related technologies. He has a passion for programming and emerging web technologies. He eagerly follows latestet developements in web. Over the years, he has designed and developed web pages for many well-known personalities and institutions.


Ms. Elisabeth Administrator

A result oriented team player with a total of 11 years experience with corporate companies and educational institutions. A relationship builder with strong negotiating skills.Graduated in Commerce, with a Masters degree in Education Management. Key skills in marketing and managing the operations of clients for achieving organizational goals and to secure a position where her ability to communicate and liaise effectively with diverse client groups can be put to good use. Started her carrier with Infosys as a QC (Quality control) for their back office clients Symantec and United Band of Switzerland. As she juggled carrier and family her position indicates progressive role in Administrative management in education institutions.

Ms. Krishna Priya Course Coordinator

An MBA graduate from Bharatiyar University, she has been actively involved in organizing various events and campaigns for the Communication department, and assists in the Administration. She is a rank holder in her PG Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising from the Kerala Press Academy in 2012-13. She also worked as a coordinator of Hindu Metro Plus Theatre Fest Kochi and is a freelance coordinator for events conducted by EVAM, Chennai. She is active in freelance media PR for various events and programmes in Kochi. She is a team player and her strength is her ability to use the web and social media to engage with a variety of target audiences and get the client’s core messages across various platforms in the most effective manner.
